Craftsman Architecture

The Arts & Crafts movement began in 19th century Britain that refers to a specific style of early 20th century American architecture from which the “Craftsman Style” emerged. This was a reaction to the Industrial Revolution which is modeled toward mass production. The Arts & Crafts movement valued the individual worker and emphasized simplicity and quality craftsmanship.

William Morris, a poet and artist, is usually credited as the founder of the Arts & Crafts Movement. Gustav Stickley, who was a furniture designer in the U.S., was also an influential proponent of the movement; and it is from Stickley that we get the Craftsman style home that became so popular in the U.S. from the 1900s to the 1930s.

The Preserve East Atlanta offers eight Craftsman Style plans to choose from that include bungalow and two story plans. The traditional Craftsman style can be seen throughout each of the homes in both the interior and exterior detailing with rich colors on each façade that frame deep front porches with period style columns. These features enhance the beauty of brick and cedar shake accents. Inside you will find open living spaces with warm fireplaces trimmed with elaborate wood mantels and simple yet elegant detailing in the trim work and cabinetry.

Although the home styles at The Preserve East Atlanta are true to the Craftsman style you will also find state-of-the-art fixtures and smart-wiring systems designed with all of today’s modern conveniences.
